Mollye Barrows: Advocacy & Investigative Journalist

Mollye is an award-winning investigative journalist, author, television news contributor and podcaster with an emphasis on investigating violent crimes and other allegations of abuse as well as providing a platform for victims to tell their stories. 

She produces and hosts "Gulf Coast Confidential," a true crime podcast that revisits and updates crimes and scandals that made headlines along Northwest Florida and other Gulf Coast communities, as well as uncover and spotlight new cases. 
 
Mollye has more than twenty years of broadcast news experience. She produced and anchored "The World According to Jesse," a weekly news and opinion program on RT America featuring former Governor of Minnesota, actor, and commentator, Jesse Ventura.                                  

She also contributed reports to a variety of other RT programs at their Washington D.C. studios including news, politics, and business newscasts.
She has also contributed reports to a variety of news and crime programs, including the Oxygen Channel, Dateline, ABC, CNN, and BBC.

She began her career at WEAR TV 3, an ABC affiliate in Pensacola, FL, where she anchored and launched multiple newscasts. 

During her years at WEAR, she also covered the courts and crime beat and in 2004, wrote the true crime book, “A Perversion of Justice,” a Pensacola case about two young brothers who beat their father to death with a baseball bat. 

In 2005, she won a Best Investigative award from Florida AP Broadcasters for "Secrets in the Schoolhouse," a series of reports exposing abuse at some private, faith-based boarding schools that specialized in "behavior modification." 

In addition to reporting, she also hosts and produces special political programs for the public television station, WSRE TV, as well as other local media outlets.
 
 

— Early Career —

After graduating from The University of West Florida with a degree in broadcast journalism, Mollye started her career reporting and anchoring for the ABC affiliate, WEAR-TV 3, in Pensacola, Florida. Throughout her nearly twenty years at WEAR TV-3 Mollye reported on a variety of stories, including coverage on natural disasters and national human interest stories like a boy who survived a shark attack off Pensacola Beach and a local missionary who was killed, along with her baby, when the CIA mistook their plane for drug runners over Central America.  Her reports were not only featured locally but were also featured on other national broadcast stations like CNN, BBC and the Weather Channel.
As she continued to fuel her love of uncovering the truth and educating the public, Mollye began reporting for the beat, “Courts & Crime” where her coverage of a local sheriff's business practices led to two grand jury investigations into official misuse of property and funds. During that time, she also covered the murder of a Pensacola man by his two, young sons and their subsequent trials. This led to her co-authorship of the true crime novel, “A Perversion of Justice '' which further dove into the details of the case. This high profile homicide continues to be of national interest and has led to Mollye’s appearance on a variety of news magazine shows to discuss the case.

Today, Mollye Barrows is an award-winning, freelance writer and reporter with an emphasis on advocacy and investigative journalism. she writes, hosts, and produces the true crime podcast Gulf Coast Confidential with production in the works on two more podcasts that also delve the issues behind the crimes and what can be done to stop it from happening to you. She continues to investigate violent crimes and other allegations of abuse, especially in cases where victims are unable to speak for themselves. Her work is featured in a variety of news magazine programs and documentaries that have aired on CNN, the Oxygen Channel, and Dateline, as well as Gulf Coast based print and broadcast media outlets including the Pensacola News Journal, Inweekly, Bella Magazine and WSRE, the local PBS station. As a local public figure and community advocate, Mollye is regularly invited to emcee and moderate various public engagement events and awards ceremonies, as well as co-host local radio and television programs.

2003 - Interviewed for Blood Brothers: The Derek & Alex King Case, an episode on the TV series “American Justice” as an Investigative Reporter who covered the murder of Terry King by his young sons.
2004 - “A Perversion of Justice - A Southern Tragedy of Murder, Lies, and Innocence Betrayed,” listed among best Investigative Books by The Investigative Reporters & Editors Journal. Mollye co-authored the true crime novel about the murder of a Pensacola father, Terry King, by his two, young sons, Derek and Alex King.
2005 - Florida Associated Press Broadcasters, 2nd place, Best Investigative Award for a three-part series called, “Secrets in the Schoolhouse” that exposed alleged sexual and other abuse accusations against the founder of a private, faith-based boarding school in Jay, Florida.
2005 - Best Local News Anchor/Reporter, Pensacola InWeekly for professional news anchoring of broadcasts at WEAR ABC 3 and reporting hard hitting stories on local courts and crime beat including the “Secrets in the Schoolhouse” investigative series.
2013 - Interviewed for Deadly Darlings, an episode on the TV series Evil Kin, as an Investigative Reporter on the King murder case.
